Next Step 2

US Defense Secretary Mattis recently said that North Korea’s advancing nuclear missile programs were the most urgent threat to national security. In fact, he said “North Korea’s continued pursuit of nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them has increased in pace and scope. The regime’s nuclear weapons program is a clear and present danger to all, and the regime’s provocative actions, manifestly illegal under international law, have not abated despite United Nations’ censure and sanctions.”  This is positioning speak for a pre-emptive strike on ‘lil Kim.  Note that there has been almost a news blackout in recent times about reaction to NK missile launches and suddenly there is the unexpected release of one of the US hostages. Nervousness is abroad and palpable.

There are now three US aircraft carrier groups off the coast of North Korea with allied support and they have been for some time at considerable expense. The only time that the US has ever put three aircraft carrier groups together in recent times was immediately before the two Gulf Wars and before that, Kosovo. Looks like the business to me!  That is some concentrated firepower.  What will the Chinese do?  They have only one serviceable carrier but a vast coastline to deploy ship-killing missiles on to.

I expect that a great deal of time and effort is going into accurately locating Kim and his top echelon, in order to take out the head of the snake before launching command and control centre strikes. And it is taking time as Kim spends a great deal of time underground.

Is this going to end well? Probably not – but, after the Clinton/Bush/ Obama dishonesty of “Strategic Patience”, meaning “Do nothing, someone else can face it”, we are not in any sort of good place and it is only going to get worse rapidly from here.  Kim’s regime has just threatened to nuke New York – not a great idea!

There are many “actors” on the world’s stage just waiting for the US to become occupied elsewhere, in order to advance their own schemes. I feel they may be surprised at what Trump’s military has up it’s sleeve.

The hairs on the back of my neck are getting exercise.
