Redskins

Oxygen is a trifle scarce at this altitude and you have to learn to use all your lungs and to breathe slowly. Non of this silly, snappy, shallow, sea-level stuff, eh? It is quite close to the altitude that pressurized cabins of
airliners are set at. Occasional individuals have been known to suffer altitude sickness here but as long as you keep breathing and keep drinking lots of water, it doesn’t seem to be a problem. It certainly suits me.
Now, back to the title of this piece. There has been much ado over here in Democrat circles, particularly in Congress, about the name of the local Washington D.C. professional American Football team. Nothing has
given me greater mirth in recent times than watching the former, apparently senescent, Democrat leader of the Senate (the inevitable Harry Reid, of whom I have spoken before) pleading with Congress to forcibly
rename the Washington Redskins. You just can’t make this sort of thing up; that time should be spent on this in order to delay the Senate in debating bills approved by the House.

What you need to know is that the name comes from the fact that, about 100 years ago, the team had a terrific run of victories while being coached by a full-blooded American Indian and it was in his honour, and with his agreement, that the team was renamed the Redskins to reflect, in perpetuity, his tenure of the job.

If you think that this is racist then there is no hope for the world and I add below an email I received recently to demonstrate the ridiculousness of the situation. The present owner refuses to rename the team and currently all the liberal TV sports channels will not refer to them as the Redskins. Imagine trying to commentate (especially during exciting moments) and trying not to use a name you have used for countless years……… and your job depends upon it………… bizarre!
Here is an e-mail sent to columnist Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune after an article he published concerning a name change for the Washington Redskins.
Dear Mr. Page…
I agree with some of our Native American population. I am highly insulted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins. One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay. We must be careful not to offend and, in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward.
Let’s also ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns.
The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of militant Blacks from the 60’s alive. Gone. It’s offensive to us white folk.
The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to the war that cost this country so many young men’s lives.
I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our sports team names. Totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres.
Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged. We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders , the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates !
Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children.
• The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or even spending habits. Wrong message to our children.
• The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a growing childhood epidemic. Wrong message to our children.
• The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates. Wrong message to our children.
• The Milwaukee Brewers . Well, that goes without saying. Wrong message to our children.
As a die-hard Oregon State fan, my wife and I, with all of this in mind, suggest it might also make some sense to change the name of the Oregon State women’s athletic teams to something other than
The Beavers” (especially when they play Southern California. Do we really want the Trojans sticking it to the Beavers???)    (editors note: Trojans are US Durex).
I always love your articles and I generally agree with them. As for the Redskins name I would suggest they change the name to the “Foreskins” to better represent their community in Washington D.C., paying tribute to the dick-heads in Congress.
Regards, Dennis
I think further comment from me would be superfluous.

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), which is an independent, non-partisan membership organization, think tank, and publisher http://www.cfr.org/ has listed the top ten possible problems for the US for this year:
• The intensification of the conflict in Iraq
• A large-scale attack on the U.S. homeland (or ally)
• A cyber attack on U.S. critical infrastructure
• A severe North Korean crisis
• The renewed threat of Israeli military strikes against Iran
• An armed confrontation in the South China Sea
• The escalation of the Syrian civil war
• Rising violence and instability in Afghanistan
• Increased fighting in eastern Ukraine
• Heightened Israeli-Palestinian tensions
And that is just the top 10! Let’s see how that lot play out…….. O.K., I will make a prediction: I think the one to watch is Russia. What is not generally realised is that Kiev and the Crimea are to the Russian
Orthodox Church what Jerusalem is to Judaism and Western Christianity, and Mecca to Islam.

How is that you ask? Well, the apostle Andrew left the eastern Mediterranean and journeyed up through what is now Turkey, across the Black Sea to Crimea, where he established his ministry and, later, up the River Dnieper.
And so?… He stepped ashore at an empty spot exactly where Kiev now stands and declared, aptly, that one day a great Christian city would arise there. This has limited significance until you realise that in order for
Russia to hang together in the face of perceived and imagined adversity, it is necessary for her rulers to play the nationalist card – and, in order to do that, it means grabbing hold of the influence of Russian Orthodox
Christianity (ROC). This is why you are hearing (if you are paying attention) from the Russian government about the slide in Christian values in the West and how Russian Orthodox Christianity will save the world.

It explains why, in the face of severe economic sanctions, Putin has an over 80% approval rating (eat your heart out Mr Obama) and is very pally and close to the senior figures of the ROC. Also points towards indications of the Antichrist of prophesy – but let’s not become distracted here.
Until now Putin was an opportunist but having had severe sanctions put upon he and his for the first step (regaining Crimea), and now the engineered oil production price squeeze has slashed his income and caused the economy to crash, the Russian Bear is a timed out, angry and wounded animal and has no choice, in his mind, in the face of continued aggression but to attack Ukraine and thereby threaten western Europe.

Putin knows defeating the U.S. and the EU via military means is not going to happen; hence his willing support of European right-wing groups to influence from within (most recently a gift of 19 million Euros to Marine Le Pen and her French Nationalists). And if they can provoke nations to move towards an eventual break with the EU, eventually you break it all apart, and you neutralize your closest enemy.

Putin is not invulnerable –
The nationalists he took on board are getting restless at the lack of progress in ‘rescuing’ all of the 10 million ethnic Russians that were resettled into the ‘Greater Russia’ of the old USSR in communist days – keep in future mind the names Alexandr Dugin and Igor Girkin. (well worth a Google). It is doubly unfortunate that the hapless Obama co-coincides with these two and Putin. It is beginning to sound like a rerun of Nazi Germany and Jewish communities are watching all this with justifiable alarm. At least he now has the economic excuse to move. It could be anywhere from the Baltic to the Caspian and not necessarily Ukraine – but Kiev is the big prize for reasons stated. He needs something big to barter with the Christian Nationalists against his and their predicament.

Increasing his ‘defence’ budget by 80% is also not a good sign. This is
what you would expect to happen when the U.S. simply does not show up. The only US leadership being shown at present is ‘first lemming off the cliff’ ….….. and Mr O has much more flexibility to allow Russian
manoeuvres, now he is re-elected and immune to public censure (if you remember the hot mike moment with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in March 2012 in S. Korea) and maintaining peripheral western
democracy is ‘so boring and costly’ when the emasculated US armed forces can now only effectively fight in one war theatre at a time.

For those of you who are unaware, the US armed forces are now at their lowest level since before WWII. Time will tell. The Cavalry ain’t comin’! Putin is already under an immense amount of pressure, and he is getting backed into a corner – so what happens when you back a bear into a corner? Well, if the saying is true that history repeats itself, you are not going to like the answer.
OK, short and sweet this time!? It’s been snowing a lot but – the days are getting longer!
